Catholic Social Services provides counselling and social work support to individuals and families. Our counsellors and social workers are professionally qualified and experienced. We offer inclusive services to anyone needing support, regardless of religion, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, gender identity or socioeconomic status.
Services we offer:
Chaplaincy Services
A chaplain's presence can have a calming and peaceful effect in prisons. In times of loneliness and despair, a chaplain can be well positioned to be an independent, compassionate advocate. They provide pastoral care and support to men and women held in our regional prisons. We also extend care and support to their families.
There is a Catholic prison chaplain in all New Zealand public prisons. The service is supported in full by the New Zealand Catholic Bishops and the Department of Corrections. They work alongside numerous Inter-denominational chaplaincy groups.
In a typical week chaplains will conduct prayer, meditation, music and sacramental liturgies, Bible studies and help organise other programmes such as Seasons for Growth.
There are also chaplains at all hospitals. Note down that you are Catholic or wish to have a chaplain assigned to you and you will be added to their list.
How do I get support?
If you would like to make an appointment or refer someone to our services, please contact our office by phone or use the Contact Us form. You'll be connected with our intake coordinator who will ask you some questions and connect you with a counsellor or social worker.
There are times when we have a wait-list for our services; we will do our best to get you an appointment as soon a possible or refer you to another appropriate agency.
Confidentiality
All our services are confidential. We do not share your information with anyone else unless you give us permission. If however, we feel there is a safety issue for you or someone you are associated with, we may need to take action to assist you. Whenever possible this will be done in consultation with you.
